Natural Yarns

The Natural yarn sector uses fibres of a vegetal and/or animal source. Fibres permitting, yarns can be made using conventional ring, open end and/or air jet technologies in a wide range of counts. Each natural fiber has its own characteristics and yarns made from these fibres will cover a wide range of applications described below.

COTTON

  • Soft

  • Highly absorbent

Apparel: Denims, work shirts, corduroys, seersuckers, socks, underwear, T-shirts, shirts, suits

Fabrics:  Table cloth, bath and dish towels, bed sheets

Other:  Fishnets, coffee filters, cotton paper, book binding

LINEN/FLAX

  • Highly absorbent
  • Durable & strong
  • Stronger when wet than dry
  • Does not stretch
  • High abrasion resistance
  • Low elasticity
  • Breaks easily when flexed
  • Resistant to moth
  • Resists dirt & stains
  • No lint or pill tendency
  • Widthstands high temperature  and yield moderate shrinkage
  • Does wrinkle easily

Apparel: Suits, dresses, skirts, shirts

Fabrics: Table cloths, dish towels, bed sheets, wall coverings, upholstery, window treatment

Other:  Luggage, cavases, sewing thread, oil painting supports

CASHMERE

  • Natural light weight insulation
  • High moisture regain
  • High nappability and loft
  • Accepts dye as well as wool

Apparel:  Men’s and women’s coats, jackets, blazers, skirts, hosiery, sweaters, gloves, scarves, mufflers, caps and robed

Fabrics:  in blends, bedding, mattress covers

SILK

  • Elegant soft luster
  • Soft, smooth, not slipery
  • Strong, poor elasticity
  • Heat & cold insulating properties
  • High moisture regain
  • Poor conductivity of electricity
  • High shrinkage, needs pre-wash which cuts shrinkage from 8% to 4%

Apparel:  Blouses, formal dresses, high fashion, negligees, pygamas, robes, skirtsuits, sundresses and underwear

Fabrics:  Upholstery, wall covering window treatments, rugs, bedding and wall hangings

WOOL

  • Excellent warming capacity
  • High absorbency
  • Good wicking properties
  • Wear resistant
  • Excellent natural elasticity
  • Wool’s scaling and crimp make it easier to spin and felt
  • Excellent bulk
  • Absorbs odors and noise

Apparel:  suiting, sweaters, pants,

Other:  carpeting, felts, wool insulation, upholstery, piano hammer covers
